Social events 2025-26

The 2025-26 calendar of events is available below.  We meet monthly on a Tuesday at 10am, for various social activities. Do please feel free to join us at any of these.  We would be most pleased if members could attend the AGM to give the guest speaker a wide audience.

150th QMU anniversary lunch celebration, Royal Scots Club, 29 – 31 Abercromby Place, Edinburgh EH3 6QE. We have a few places

left and would encourage you to consider joining us for this very special event. Please email Claire Seaman at claire_seaman@hotmail.co.uk to book a place.

Optional tour of campus to see new art installation, award winning learning hub etc. on Sunday 28th at 10.45 with coffee

and refreshments. Please inform Claire Seaman at claire_seaman@hotmail.co.uk if wish to join tour of campus.

7 October 2025 10.00 Coffee: The Palmerston, 1 Palmerston Place, Edinburgh

EH12 5AF.

QMU history. Possible to meet with colleagues to visit our institution’s first location at Atholl Crescent (our base from

1891 to 1970, now Gillespie MacAndrew) and hear fond memories from members. Elaine Acaster and Cecilia Young

have kindly offered to share their experiences.

4 November 2025 Coffee: Newhailes Café,

The Courtyard, Newhailes house and gardens (National Trust Property), Newhailes Road,

Musselburgh EH21 6RY

Organised 1 hour tour of the house: Palladian house that played a prominent role in the Scottish Enlightenment.

Cost: Adult: £16, Concession £13, National Trust for Scotland members FreeWe would like to encourage you to consider signing up for this tour by emailing Carol Brennan cbrennan@qmu.ac.uk by 31 August to help with planning guides for the tour(s).

There is also a second-hand book shop which may be of interest.

2 December 2025 12.00 Christmas lunch at the Royal Scots club,

29 – 31 Abercromby Place, Edinburgh EH3 6QE

We will share the menu nearer the time. £41.50 per person. 20 places will be available for the lunch.

memories from members. Contributors include Carol Brennan, Lindesay Irvine, Claire Seaman and Cecilia Young. – we

welcome others to share their fond memories.

Edinburgh New Town Cookery School. Details to follow. Please e-mail cbrennan@qmu.ac.uk to secure a booking.

Easter break for April

5 May 2026 10.00 Coffee: Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Meet at the

East Gate coffee shop.

There will be an informal tour of the

garden and the opportunity for lunch at the West Gate café.

5 June 2026 2.00pm Annual General Meeting at Queen Margaret University

Board Room. Guest speaker - Olga Wojtas talking about her laetr career as an author, with a short reading and a Q and A session. Following the meeting, there may be anopportunity for a tour of the QMU campus.
