About the Association

We are a social and collegiate organisation for all current and former staff and graduates of Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh (formerly Queen Margaret University College, Queen Margaret College and Edinburgh school of Domestic science).

The Association was formed in 1914 as the "Old Students Guild" although it has now changed its title (2023) to the QMU Association, in accordance with the changing face of the University. The  Association is an organisation independent of the Alumni Association, however, we work closely with Alumni to fund raise and and have events.

Membership

Founded in 1914, the Association promotes friendship and networking between former graduates and all current and former staff of the University.

Membership is open to all graduates who have completed a recognised QMU (QMUC, QMC, or previous affiliated colleges) programme of study. It is also open to all current and previous academic, administrative and support staff.

The value of contacts from across different age groups, with differing knowledge and skills offers opportunities for mentoring and support to all in their ongoing careers and lives. The Association provides a superb way of keeping in touch with QMU and alumni.

We hold a variety of activities throughout the year such as networking lunches, coffee get togethers and social events. These are promoted through a regular e-newsletter, on the website and Facebook sites and on a dedicated page in the QMYOU Magazine.

Madras Lodge

Madras Lodge, our  house in Gullane is one of the most popular benefits of being in the  Association. Its use is exclusively for members and their friends and consists of two properties each can be rented either separately or together depending on your numbers.

It is owned by the all membership and managed by the QMU Association committee, and provides accommodation at very favourable rates  (it is non profit making).

This little gem of a retreat sits in its own restful garden behind high walls just a few minutes walk away from the glorious beach. It retains its' original character in line with the requirements of the donor.

Perfect for a short or longer stay an away day or  a barbecue with friends. It is conveniently sited for seaside walks, links golf, good restaurants and a plethora of local galleries, visitor centres and shops.
